遙遠的街區 A Distant Neighborhood 201
"A Distant Neighborhood" is a movie that
looks quiet but has a lot of recoil. You may not cry or break down while
watching the movie, and you may even wonder for a while, "Huh? That's
all?" But when the credits are over, you will find yourself sitting on the
sofa in a daze, and what comes to mind is not the plot, but a picture that you
haven't remembered for a long time, such as your home when you were a child,
what your parents looked like when they were young, or a question you really
wanted to ask but didn't ask in the end.
The most ruthless thing about
this movie is that it pretends to be a time-travel story, but in fact it tells
you a very cruel thing from beginning to end: many things in life cannot be
changed by going back to the past.
One day, due to fate, he will return to his
hometown, but as a result, his soul is thrown directly back forty years ago,
back to his fourteen-year-old body. This setting looks very cool at first
glance, after all, who has never fantasized that if they can return to
adolescence with their current memories, they will definitely be able to turn
their lives into a simple mode. But "A Distant Neighborhood" doesn't
want to fulfill your desire at all. Thomas really knew everything, he knew when
his father would run away from home, he knew how much his mother would be hurt
by it, and even knew that he would become a somewhat failed adult in the
future. So he desperately tried to stop that critical moment, to pull the
family back from the edge of the crack. The result? My father still left.
This moment is actually very stinging, because the
movie does not use any bloody tricks, nor does it say "as long as you work
hard, you can change your fate". It just calmly tells you that some
choices are not that you didn't work hard enough back then, but that you didn't
have a choice at all. Many viewers are very unforgiving of the father role in
the film, feeling that he is selfish, evasive, and irresponsible. This feeling
is very real and very similar to how we look at our parents when we grow up.
When I was a child, I only thought they were adults, they understood
everything, and they should hold on to everything. When I grew up, I realized
that they were just humans who bit the bullet and played the game.
The most tender part of the movie is not preventing
his father from leaving, but the process of Thomas reacquainting himself with
his mother. In the past, he only remembered his mother's later fatigue, silence
and hard work, but he forgot that when she was young, she loved to laugh, look
forward to, and dress up seriously for life. When you use the eyes of an adult
to see your parents not yet worn out by life, that sadness is actually heavier
than any plot.
This film does not have a strong soundtrack, nor
does it have emotional explosions, the shots are very restrained and the
emotions are very restrained. Some people will say that it is too bland, too
cold, and even a little cheap and warm, but I feel that this restraint itself
is its most honest place. Because real regret is often not hysteria, but you
understand it, but it's too late.
If the general time-travel movie is to help the
audience realize their dreams, then "Distant Neighborhood" is more
like helping you with psychological counseling. It doesn't ask you to change
the past, but forces you to understand the past. Understand why those you have
complained, hated, and couldn't figure out made such choices. After watching
this movie, you may not necessarily be happier, but you may be a little more
forgiving. To my parents, to myself, and to those moments that can no longer be
repeated.
"A Distant Neighborhood" is not a movie
that you will immediately recommend to your friends and say "super
good", but it is likely to suddenly be remembered by you at some point
when your life is stuck. Then you will find that it actually says the same
thing all the time: we look back, not to rewrite our destiny, but to learn to
let go. If you happen to be at a stage in your life recently, this film may not
give you the answer, but at least it will accompany you to sit quietly for a while.
This is actually enough.
